I desperately need a guard dog. Only I end up with a guard Steve instead.
I tell one tiny lie. Okay, several. Apparently that’s a really bad idea, because now the hottest mountain man in Wild Rose is guarding me, snarling at strangers, and calling me his.
All I wanted was a big, vicious (trained!) canine to watch over me while I sleep, just in case the stalker I’ve somehow picked up returns. Instead of a dog, I get Steve.
He’s charming, ex-military, and built like nobody’s business. He sees through every lie, and from the moment we meet, claims I’m his responsibility. Even announces we’ve been dating for months the minute his friend smiles at me—and says it so convincingly, I start to believe him.
“I answered the phone. That means you’re mine to protect,” he says, shadows from his past haunting his eyes—ones I’m determined to erase. “You don’t run scared anymore, April. Not on my watch.”
I came to Wild Rose Mountain for protection, but falling for the mountain man who’s appointed himself my bodyguard might prove the most dangerous thing of all.
