Handsome, wealthy resort owner Treat Braden is used to getting what he wants. When Max Armstrong walked into his life six months earlier, he saw right through the efficient and capable façade she wore like a shield, to the sweet, sensual woman who lay beneath. She sparked an unfamiliar desire in him for more than a one-night stand, leaving his heart reeling and his blood boiling. But one mistake caused her to turn away, and now, after six months of longing for the one woman he cannot have, he’s going home to try to forget her all together.
Max Armstrong has a successful career, a comfortable lifestyle, and she’s never needed a man to help her find her way—until Treat Braden caught her attention at a wedding in Nassau, causing a surge of emotions too reminiscent of the painful past she’d spent years trying to forget. Max will do anything to avoid reliving that pain—including forgoing her toe-curling, heart-pounding desire for Treat.
When a chance encounter turns into a night of intense passion, Treat realizes that the mistake he made six months earlier may cause him to lose Max completely. He will do everything within his power to win her heart forever—and Max is forced to face her hurtful past head on for the man she cannot help but love.

Honestly, I was a little apprehensive about Lovers at Heart. Not because of the story, mind you, but because while it is the first book in a series, it is also the forth book in a larger series. I did a little research and found out that it could be read as a stand alone, but you do miss some of the backstory between several of the characters. I'm the type of reader that has to start from the beginning of a series, but I really wanted to read it. So I did...
...and I loved it.
Lovers at Heart is the story of Treat and Max. Readers of the Love in Bloom series met them before in previous books and know that they seem to be missing their perfect opportunity with each other. After a unfortunate encounter between the two, Treat believes that he no longer has chance with Max. Sucks for him because he's in love with her. Lucky for him, Max can't seem to get Treat out of her mind. A new chance encounter gives him a new hope that he can finally win her over.
Can we clone Treat? Please? I loved him and if he were to step out of the pages of the book, I'd probably jump him. He's so patient and caring with Max. And when they do the deed, he's hot as hell. As for Max... How can I put this nicely? The girl has issues. Understandably so when she finally lets down her guard and tells Treat about her past. It was hard to watch her work through her issues. She starts off as a weak character that lets her demons ruin a night of sex with Treat. She lets them creep back in again towards the end of the book, but this time she doesn't let them win. In fact, she does something many people would never have the courage to do. You go girl!
To be perfectly honest, if you have the chance to start from the beginning of the series, do it! There is a major event that happens between Treat and Max in a previous book that plays a big role in their relationship. If you start with Lovers at Heart, you are not missing anything other than the event and the relationship between two other characters. I started with Lovers at Heart and I still loved the book. It has the perfect mix of romance and sizzling hot sex. I loved watching Treat trying to woo Max as he's trying to win over his family. I loved watching Max grow from her past to become a stronger woman. I know we'll see more of them in the future and I can't wait to see what it entails.
...not until I read the first books in the series!
