Brianna Heart has a six-year old daughter and a twelve-year plan to keep her life as simple as possible until Layla turns eighteen. That means swearing off relationships and the drama that goes along with them, working two jobs, and being the best damn mother she can be.
The last thing Capital Series Grand Prix racer Hugh Braden wants after dating media-hungry leggy models and money-hungry fan girls is a blind date. But how could he turn down a favor to one of his best friends? Hugh expected the date to go poorly, but he didn’t expect to be intensely attracted to the beautiful brown-eyed bartender who completely blows him off—and steals his every thought thereafter.
When Brianna’s perfectly orchestrated life turns upside down, Hugh is there to help, softening the turmoil, and maybe even rescuing her heart from the lonely place where it has been hiding. Can a man who doesn’t believe in fate and a woman who doesn’t believe in true love find happiness in each other’s arms forever?
No! I won't believe it. This can't be the last book in the Bradens series. Nope, not believing it. Thankfully, Savannah Braden is engaged to Jack Remington so we'll still see a little of the Braden clan as the Remington series continues. Right? Melissa? Right...
Hearts at Play is the adorably sweet romance of Brianna and Hugh, two characters that come from completely different worlds. It was almost like a fairy tale watching these two come together. Hugh is a racing superstar and Brianna is a struggling single mother. Hugh is from a large family and Brianna isn't. It takes a chance meeting at the bar where Brianna works to bring them together. From the moment Hugh meets her, he is smitten. He is happy just watching her. Brianna, on the other hand, takes a couple days to warm up to Hugh. I love how quickly Hugh falls into the role of Brianna's protector. He is amazing sweet and caring for both Brianna and her daughter, Layla. He is definitely wins the Prince Charming status. Brianna is a quietly strong character. She is a fantastic mother and puts her daughter's needs before her own. Although, her 12 year plan is crazy. The woman was insane for thinking that would work. I still admired her, though. Together, they brought out the best in each other. I loved how their relied and held each other up. Adorable...
I don't know where Hearts at Play lands in my favorites from the Bradens. I'll have to think about that and get back to you. I just loved everything about it. Another winner, Melissa.
I will be back with the Bradens in a couple weeks to go more in depth with the series. If you have any questions, thoughts, or comments on any of the books, please leave a comment.
"What sets Melissa Foster apart are her compelling characters who you care about... desperately. This is psychological suspense at its most chilling. I dare you to read the first chapter and not be hooked." International bestseller, M.J. Rose
