For reasons unknown, I was a bit hesitant going into this one. Maybe its because it was the last of the three books I read for the tour and I needed a break from historical romances or maybe I was going into a slump, I wasn't sure. However, my hesitation evaporated 5 pages into this book and I could not put it down. I loved every thing about It Takes a Scandal so much, I wanted to live inside this book. Sebastian... Seriously, can we figure out how to clone our favorite heroes? I loved him! Sebastian broke my heart and made me fall madly in love with him from the moment he appeared on my Kindle. There was just something about him that makes my heart beat a little faster. He starts off in the lowest point of his life. People think he's a thief and he murdered his father. He starts living again the moment he meets Abigail and soon he's desperate for her love. He starts to wander around his dust-filled rooms and imagines what it would be life to bring her home. He's devastated when his ex-best friend starts courting Abigail. He's scared of losing her and realizes that he has to win her. Abigail was perfect for him. She's strong where he's weak. She's outspoken and will fight for him. She's also a little naughty and is a fan of the scandalous pamphlet, Fifty Ways to Sin. I loved the scenes between her and Penelope. The banter between sisters was hysterically funny. I loved the little evil looks they share. Bravo to Caroline for creating Benedict, a character that could be seen as the other man, but he was a character that I would love to see get his own romance. He's a good guy once he gets away from his ass of a father. Seriously, his father was an ass. Sic Penelope at him and all will be well in the world.

Well, Crystal, here we have another wounded hero in this trio of romances. But Sebastian, despite his wounds, is worldly wise about women and knows just how to entice the pampered, naive Abigail. She has to have plenty of backbone though, if she is going to thwart her parents' plans for her to marry Benedict and let her heart rule her decision to marry a penniless love. This story is as intriguing as the other two. Oh my! I must have all three, that's all there is to it. :-) jdh2690@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteBoth Abigail and Penelope had enough backbone to stand up for themselves. That's what I've always been afraid about with historical romances, that the women would have no backbone and would always do as told. I'm so glad that I haven't come across a heroine like that in the few books I have read from the genre. I loved that Abigail was willing to stand up to Benedict and to her father because she was in love with Sebastian. I won't spoil the ending, but I do hope we see Benedict again in the future. He redeemed himself towards the end.
