A visit with Lecia Cornwall, author of WHAT A LADY MOST DESIRES + 3 giveaways

Hello! Today we are lucky to have the wonderful Lecia Cornwall visiting as she celebrates the release of her new book, What a Lady Most Desires. Be sure to stick around until the very end of the post for a chance to win THREE giveaways!

Take it away, Lecia!

Fifteen Facts About Lecia Cornwall and WHAT A LADY MOST DESIRES

1. I share my home with five cats and one chocolate lab. I have never, in all my life, lived in a house without at least two cats.

2. I cannot seem to read just one book at a time. Currently, I’m switching back and forth between three books.

3. I love British magazines—BBC History, Country Living, Homes & Gardens, and Jamie Oliver’s food magazine are my favorites.

4. I love trying new recipes from different cultures with my family—this summer has included a lot of delicious Moroccan recipes after a wonderful dinner out at a local Moroccan restaurant.

5. My hobbies include rug hooking (including buying old sweaters, shrinking them down, cutting them into strips, and designing my own patterns). I also collect antique of vintage brooches (mostly from my mother and mother-in-law).

6. I was a Cub Scout leader for five years (my leader name was Raksha), and those were some of the best, most fun-filled days of my life.

7. When I was a kid I wanted to grow up to be an archaeologist (or a writer), or a photojournalist for National Geographic (or a writer), or a museum conservator (or a writer).

8. I have a single-serving size bottle of Writer’s Tears Whiskey on my desk. When I finish a manuscript, I toast the end of the book, and celebrate with a small sip.

9. I burst in to tears when I finish a book. I don’t know why—it just happens, every single time. After a good sob, I dry my tears and go back to the beginning of the manuscript and start editing.

10. I met my husband on a blind date. He took me to my senior prom, and three months later we were engaged.

11. I love writing heroes with vulnerabilities or flaws they must overcome.

12. I love writing heroines who do bold things that come from their hearts, and are willing to do just about anything to protect the ones they love.

13. The hardest part of writing a book for me is the sex scenes, not to be confused with love scenes—I love creating sexual tension and romance between my characters.

14. Just as I was finishing the manuscript for WHAT A LADY MOST DESIRES, I visited a local garden center, and found a single pot of English daisies for sale. Lady Delphine is wearing English daisies in her hair at the ball at the start of WHAT A LADY MOST DESIRES, and she gives one to Stephen for luck as he leaves for battle. That daisy proves to be very important later in the story, so finding the living symbol for sale seemed like a sign. The daisies are still thriving in my garden, stronger than the severe Calgary summer, like Delphine herself, and love.

15. Part of the desire to write about a blind hero in WHAT A LADY MOST DESIRES comes from my own vision problems. I wear high-powered contact lenses, and have strong reading and driving glasses to go over those. Without them, I’m just points away from being legally blind. As my prescriptions got stronger and stronger during my teen years, I used to worry that I might someday lose my sight altogether, but I am most grateful that it is still correctable, and I will be able to enjoy the sights of nature, colors, and the faces of my loved ones for many years to come.

On the night before the final battle against Napoleon, Lady Delphine St. James finds herself dancing with the one man she has always wanted, Major Lord Stephen Ives. He makes it clear he has no time for a lady he sees as flirtatious and silly, but as the call to arms sounds, she bids him farewell with a kiss that stirs them both. When he returns gravely injured, she is intent on caring for him, even if his surly behavior tests her patience.

After the battle, Stephen is not only wounded and blind, but falsely accused of cowardice and theft. The only light in his dark world is Delphine, the one woman he never imagined he could desire. But she deserves more than he can give her.

As their feelings deepen and hidden enemies conspire to force them to part forever, can their love survive the cruelest test of all?

  1. Hello! I'm thrilled to be with you today on Crystal's blog. I'll be dropping by throughout the day to answer questions and chat, so please leave a comment—and don't forget to enter to win one of my books, or the lovely bracelet. I chose the bracelet because the flowers remind me of the daisy Delphine wore in her hair in WHAT A LADY MOST DESIRES—a love token with great importance later in the story, so how could I resist when I saw the perfect bracelet?

  2. Thanks for sharing the fun facts! #9 (Bursting into tears) reminds me of the beginning of the movie Romancing the Stone when author Joan Wilder is crying over the end of her book. I'm looking forward to trying your books! (judy at gwd dot org)

  3. Thanks Judy—I love that movie! It came out before I was published, and I envied Joan Wilder her career and her adventure!

    1. I was a very shy, awkward teenager, such a book geek. What else could I have grown into but a writer?

  6. I sense a theme with #7... Haha! I worry about my kids vision a lot! My oldest got glasses in Kindergarten, and then the same year his baby brother (6months) had to get glasses because of lazy eyes. They didn't work and he had to have 2 surgeries that year. Now his glasses are working for now. I hope you can keep your vision for a long time to come! It's something most people take for granted.

  7. Vision care and laser surgery have advanced so much, and I hope your sons will both enjoy good vision for years to come. It's amazing how kids learn to adapt with health concerns, and other issues. Mine both had learning disabilities, and learned to cope very well with them by the end of high school and through university. My daughter was growth hormone deficient, and learned to do her own injections at age 8, since she likes to be in control. Your kids will find what works for them, and as a mom, you'll still worry, cause that's part of our job, right? Love and worry, worry and love, repeat.

    1. We've been married for 32 years—I can't believe it's been that long. We're at the 'he's driving me crazy' stage. Did I mention his name is Stephen?

  10. I sort of met my hubby on a "blind date" too, Lecia. I had been single for so long I had about given up meeting anyone and then a girlfriend invited me to her church one Sunday as she was singing a solo in the Easter cantata. The man I met was the pastor of the church! Talk about a surprise when my girlfriend told me he was single! It really wasn't planned and it wasn't a date, but he did call me a week later for a pastoral visit...and then a month later we had our first date. Three months later we were engaged and another three months later we were married! We've been married 34 years now. Thanks for sharing more of yourself in this interview, Lecia. I'm really looking forward to reading your newest release. jdh2690@gmail.com

  12. Hi Lecia! I can't read just one book either! I'm reading three right now. I think I only know one other person who met their husband on a blind date. That is really a great story and congrats on being together for so many years.

  13. Thanks Anna! Do you choose a different book to read every night, or keep them in different rooms? I just have a pile in my bedroom.

  14. Your story about how you met your husband is similar to mine. lol.Not a blind date, but we met at a function at a friend's house. He was visiting though, so our whole relationship began long distance. I was still in H.S. when we got engaged (but only for another month.) We were engaged when we went to my senior prom. lol.

Oh, and I cry when I finish a book too! I'm pretty sure my husband thinks I'm not playing with a full deck...
