In the remote Rocky Mountains, lives depend on the Search & Rescue brotherhood. But in a place this far off the map, trust is hard to come by and secrets can be murder...

Ice rescue diver Derek Warner never meant to be a hero. But when two little girls go missing, he's the first in line to bring them home-even if that means scouring the wilderness with the woman he once loved and lost, Artemis Rey.

Artemis has never stopped wanting Derek. Now, racing to find the girls before it's too late, minutes turn to hours. Night falls. Old flames rekindle. And a danger grows in the darkest wilderness that may be more than even the Search and Rescue brotherhood can hope to face...

I can't think of a better way to start a new reading year than with a debut author and a brand new series. Katie Ruggle's prequel novella, On His Watch, promises readers an action packed series full of fun characters and some very creative rescues. While it is a short novella and you really don't get a lot of time with Derek and Artemis (great name, btw), you are treated to an introduction and sample of Katie's writing. However, their reunion sure does heat up a cold winter's night. On His Watch was a fun, fast paced novella that sets up the series by introducing a handful of characters in realistic search and rescue situations, something I'm looking forward to the most with this series. The one thing I am really hoping for in the series, especially in the first book, is that readers will get to follow an ice-rescue diver in action. I've yet to come across this type of rescue in a book and I think it'll be interesting to read. Kudos to the author on a great debut novella. And I can't wait to see what else she's got in store for her new readers.

When she’s not writing, Katie Ruggle rides horses, shoots guns, and travels to warm places where she can SCUBA dive. Graduating from the Police Academy, Katie received her ice-rescue certification and can attest that the reservoirs in the Colorado mountains really are that cold. While she still misses her off-grid, solar- and wind-powered house in the Rocky Mountains, she now lives in Rochester, Minnesota near her family.

There is a special preorder campaign going on for Hold Your Breath, where you can receive a Search & Rescue book light and be entered in to win a fabulous gourmet winter reading gift basket from Le Chocolat!
