When it comes to reading a book before meeting the author, I kinda suck. I'm forever going into it with the best intentions. A couple months, a month, a few weeks... I could know about the event a year in advance and I would probably still not read but a handful of the books. When I learned that Brenda Novak was signing at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books, I was determined to read something by her. So I searched the depths of my Kindle and I came across When We Touch, the prequel novella to Brenda's wildly popular Whiskey Creek series. Well, as it turns out When We Touch was more of a re-introduction. I found a copy of a 2001 Harlequin tucked away in my favorites box. That was a pretty neat find.
I love a book with family drama and When We Touch had it in spades. Holy cow! The drama that's going on in that family! I loved it. So basically Olivia loves/loved Kyle, but now he's marrying her sister, Noelle. Now that she's back home for their wedding, Olivia comes face-to-face with Brandon, Kyle's stepbrother. The chemistry between Olivia and Brandon started brewing back in high school. How long will it be until all that pent-up chemistry bubbles to the surface?
I thoroughly enjoyed When We Touch. Gotta say, as a prequel novella, this one certainly did it's job. Brenda hooked me in and now I want to continue on with the series. When I searched the depths of my Kindle, I also found out that I already own the next book in the Whiskey Creek series. Guess what I'm reading the next time I have some free reading time? Yea, buddy!
