Unemployed schoolteacher Erin Jenkins is back in Portland, the town she hasn’t called home for more than a decade. It’s not the way she wants to spend her last days of summer: in between jobs and avoiding her mother’s snooping by escaping to the ice-cream aisle. But when the opportunity arises for her to accompany her brother’s best friend—her lifetime crush—to a wedding, summer gets a whole lot more interesting.

Firefighter and single dad Jake Bennett has built a nice, safe wall around his heart—no romance, no getting burned. That doesn’t mean he’s ruling out a fling. Considering Erin’s visit is temporary, they’re the perfect fit for a scorching no-strings one-night stand. Or two. Or five. Until the worst thing happens: Erin and Jake are feeling more. Damn that four-letter word.

Now their hearts are on the line, and when their smoldering summer comes to a close, it’s going to be harder than ever to put out the fire.

Okay, so I have a little confession for you. When I'm finishing a book or if I need a change of scenery, I like to read a chapter or two in a new book. I tell myself that I do this to get a feel for the author's writing style, especially if the author is new to me. Turns out that is so far from the truth, it's not even in the same zip code. I do this to torment myself. What's worse is that I tend to do this when I'm about to go to bed. So now I'm suddenly sucked into a new book and any hopes of sleep goes flying out the window.

This is what happened to me with Burning Up. I knew Jennifer's writing style since I've read one of her previous books and I loved it. She's hysterical and I friggin' adore her characters. So when I thought it was a good idea to read a couple chapters of the book right before bed, I was immediately sucked in. I could not put this book down. The characters were so damn lovable. Jennifer's writing was laugh out loud funny. The sexy moments were sizzling. Seriously, everything about Burning Up was amaze-balls. Loved it!
