All I wanted was a big, vicious (trained!) canine to watch over me while I sleep, just in case the stalker I’ve somehow picked up returns. Instead of a dog, I get Steve.
He’s charming, ex-military, and built like nobody’s business. He sees through every lie, and from the moment we meet, claims I’m his responsibility. Even announces we’ve been dating for months the minute his friend smiles at me—and says it so convincingly, I start to believe him.
“I answered the phone. That means you’re mine to protect,” he says, shadows from his past haunting his eyes—ones I’m determined to erase. “You don’t run scared anymore, April. Not on my watch.”
Yes, I am back with another novella review. Told you I am addicted to them. I will happily devour any of Macy West's novellas at this point. They are a delight to read. Her heroes are protective and just a tiny bit possessive. Her heroines are strong women who can carry their own weight, but still lean on their hero when the situation calls for it. Then we have the adorable dog perspective to tie it all together. Yes, you read that right. We get at least one chapter from the rescue dog's POV. And it is always hilarious. Protected by the Ex-Military Mountain Man was no different. From before he even met her, Steve had already decided that it was his duty to protect her. After watching his buddies find their soulmates one-by-one, it really doesn't surprise Steve when he feels like jolt of chemistry the first time he sees April. April is on the run from a stalker. All she is looking for is a safe space to catch her breath. What she doesn't expect is to find a mountain man soulmate, his two cats, and a dog who is every much her soulmate as Steve is. I loved Protected by the Ex-Military Mountain Man. Honestly, I'm in love with this whole series. I'm wondering if we met two heroes from Macy's next series in this one. I've got my fingers crosses!
