Excerpt from TARNISHED HONOR

Glorious.

There was no other word for it. Simply glorious.

Daniel tipped his face up to the sky and grinned. The sun was shining and the breeze was mild. The sky was blue and tufted with fat white clouds. It was a lovely day to travel—it could have been raining, could have been cold. But since he’d set out from London, on this lengthy journey to Inverness, each day had been prettier than the last.

His mood had improved too. He was swamped with the conviction that he’d done the right thing, leaving his haven. As much as he appreciated his position at the club, he’d allowed himself to sink into it, into the rut of it. He’d allowed himself to wallow in his woes.

There was no wallowing on the road; there simply wasn’t time for it.

It was energizing to be traveling again, invigorating to be out in the world, breathing fresh air and going somewhere. He enjoyed the solitude, the quiet, the absence of need to make conversation.

That left him alone with his thoughts, his regrets, his guilt, but such specters had haunted him for so long, they were like old companions. He wouldn’t know who he was without them.

Aye. This was far more healing than any medicine—the power of his mount between his thighs, the kiss of warmth on his face, the movement. Surprisingly, his leg hardly pained him at all, except when he moved suddenly. In fact, it even felt better after several days of riding. He hadn’t fallen off his horse once.

Hunnam was in good form as well. No doubt he’d enjoyed the fresh air and the chance to prance once again. An hour’s exercise a day was one thing, but for a Scots Grey, the chance to run and run wild spoke to his soul.

It spoke to Daniel’s too, so he put his heels to his mount’s sides and gave him his head.

And it was glorious.

He hadn’t realized how closed up he’d allowed himself to become. How isolated. He hadn’t realized how much he’d allowed his injury—and his guilt—to shrink his horizons.

Well, his horizons weren’t limited now. They spread before him in a verdant green wash that stretched as far as the eye could see. He passed a loch and paused to admire the sparkling waters, to watch an osprey swoop down to snatch a hapless fish.

And damn, but it was a fine thing to be back in Scotland. Daniel hadn’t realized just how much he’d missed hearing the lilt of his own brogue, or tasting a well-made haggis. The Brits didn’t care for haggis, a fact he’d never quite understood. When created by someone who knew what they were doing, it was delicious. And Scottish innkeepers, apparently, knew what they were doing. Or their wives did.

There was no doubt about it, he’d probably gained a stone since crossing the border to his homeland. He’d never felt so vibrant and alive. And while he had enjoyed the occasional chat with a fellow countryman, he had never enjoyed his own company more. There was something about being alone with one’s thoughts that was very peaceful. It allowed a man to explore his soul at leisure without interruptions. It allowed a man to process all that had happened in his life. To put everything in the place it belonged. Though he still had several days of travel, at most a week, he was already lamenting the journey’s end.

After he passed the Kinclaven Crossroads, the landscape changed from fields and farms to orchards. The looming trees shaded the road in a lacy pattern; the scent of crisp apples filled the air, tempting Daniel to reach up and pluck one for a taste.

He did not. That would be stealing and he was a man of honor.

He pulled back on Hunnam’s reins when he spotted a white mare standing in the road. She was difficult to miss. Her lines were exquisite, her saddle and tack were the finest…but she had no rider. His brow wrinkled as he rode closer. No one would ever abandon such a fine horse. It was—

“Blast.”

The imprecation came from the leafy tree next to which the mare stood.

Daniel glanced up; the boughs riffled. An apple fell to the ground.

The mare whinnied and walked over to it, lipping up the treat.

Another apple fell and the horse made short work of that one was well.

“Stop eating them all,” the tree said. “Save some for me.”

Daniel cleared his throat. It seemed prudent to make himself known. “Hullo?”

The leaves rustled and a face peered out. Enormous blue-green eyes stared at him. Something flickered through them. Something that could have been construed as…guilt.

Daniel frowned. “What are you doing up there?” he asked.

The eyes blinked. “Nothing.”

“Nothing?” He drummed his fingers on his saddle. “Are you stealing apples?”

The chagrined expression on that elfin face was nearly whimsical. “Is this your orchard?”

“Indeed it is not.”

An entrancing, mischievous smile blossomed and the thief tossed him a fat red apple. “Then catch.”

He did not. He did not catch. The apple bounced off his pate.

“Oh really,” an amused voice echoed from above. “Let’s try again.”

“Let’s not.”

Too late. Another apple flew in his direction. He missed it again. It fell to the ground and Hunnam gobbled it up.

“Sir, you are supposed to catch them.”

“I doona care to abet you in your thievery—” Another missile flew. By the grace of God, he caught this one.  “Please stop throwing stolen apples at me.” It was large and red and shiny and looked delicious. Aside from that, it smelled quite tantalizing. As he felt he had earned it, he polished it on his lapel and took a bite. Flavor exploded in his mouth and juice dribbled down his chin. They were excellent apples.

The face disappeared, followed by more rustling. A satchel fell to the loam with a soft thud. Then a pair of feet appeared. Legs. Slim hips. Slender shoulders and then a mop of tousled black curls.

A boy dropped to the ground with an oof. He looked up at Daniel, his head tipped saucily to the side, and then he grinned. It was a rakish grin. “Not stealing,” he said. “Borrowing.”

This he said with such conviction, Daniel had to struggle not to laugh. This was no laughing matter. Thieves ended up in the gaol. “Ah. Borrowing. Surely you won’t mind explaining that to him.” Daniel nodded to the distance, where a farmer was running through the trees toward them, arms flailing.

The boy’s eyes widened. He picked up the satchel and hefted it over his shoulder. Then he bounded into the saddle and shot a glance back at Daniel. His grin was wicked as he urged his mount forward…leaving Daniel behind to explain to the farmer why his apples were missing.

And why apple juice dribbled from his chin.

More about TARNISHED HONOR by Sabrina York

Daniel Sinclair is a broken man with wounds that are physical and spiritual. He’s weighed down by grief and guilt that he could not save his friend, Graeme Lennox, and is convinced that a French lance left him less than a man. He has no prospects. Nothing left but his tarnished honor. But then he meets a vexing boy who makes him question even that.

Fia Lennox’s world turned on its end with her brother’s death. She’s gone in one fell swoop from lady to servant…to a woman on the run. The world is a dangerous place for a woman alone—even when she is masquerading as a boy—so when she meets up with a strong, valiant ex-cavalryman, she decides to become his traveling companion. Whether he likes it or not.

Battling villains, would-be-friends and their own finely-forged battlements, Fia and Daniel rush toward their destiny, a scorching passion and, hopefully, redemption. Can love conquer all? Even the ghosts of the past?

But when he’s shot during a dangerous rescue mission, and has to rely on a beautiful nurse to survive, he realizes he has to rethink his resolution. Suddenly he can’t imagine his life without Brandy in it. It’s a damn shame she has a secret that could ruin everything.

I previously reviewed Ryder's story last year as part of the Hot Alpha SEALs: Military Romance Megaset. If you'd like to see my original post, please click HERE. This review will be for both books.

I think Sabrina York has found a new niche. I've fallen in love with her Dukes. I've swooned over her computer nerds. I've wanted to visit Tryst Island to spend a weekend with Bella and the gang. Now I'm ready to get down and dirty with her SEALs. In Stone Hard SEALs, we meet Ryder and Drake, two sexy men hell bent on saving the lives of two lucky women. Well, not lucky that they were kidnapped... Lucky that they were rescued by these two strapping men. I truly hope that we see more grit from Sabrina in the future. Her action sequences were believable and kept me on edge. Of course the sex sizzles because this is Sabrina York and the woman knows how to write sex. There is more than that to these stories, though. The characters are incredibly strong, both mentally and physically. They'll go to great lengths to save the one they love. The romance itself is intense with the chemistry jumping off the page. Another winner from an author that I know will never cease to amaze me.

**This title appears in the Cowboy 12 Pack box set.**

When Crystal Wilson gets roped into a wild, girls-only weekend at a rowdy “stud” ranch, the last thing she wants to do is tangle with a bunch of half-naked men pretending to be cowboys. But when she meets Ford McCoy, she can’t help but be attracted to his dark, dominant, gruff appeal.

What she doesn’t know is that Ford isn’t a stripper. He’s her friend’s overprotective brother, there to make sure his little sister doesn’t get into any trouble. She’s surprised at the passion that flares between them. In fact, what she has with Ford might just be what she’s been looking for all along.

It’s a pity the sexy rancher isn’t in the market for a city girl.

The Real McCoy... How do I love thee? Let me count the ways...
  1. Characters - Shut the front door! A heroine...named Crystal... Finally!! I loved Crystal. She's quiet and reserved, but all it takes is one look at a red-blooded cowboy and it's on! The cowboy that sets her heart fluttering is Ford McCoy. Ford...yum! He's the protective big brother of her friend and employee.with a wall erected around his heart after the departure of his ex. One glance at a very drunk Crystal and the wall starts crumbling. It doesn't take long for these lovebirds to find themselves in each other's arms. I could go on and on, but in all honestly, I loved the background characters just as much, especially Porsche. That woman has a secret...
  2. Plot - The Real McCoy is like a romp in the hay with a cowboy... It is fun, sexy as hell, and it left me with a satisfied smile on my face. The Real McCoy was just a lot of fun to read. From beginning to end, I devoured it in record time. I wanted it to end so Crystal and Ford could have their happy ending, but at the same time, I wanted to spend more time with their friends.
  3. It's Sabrina! - I am a big fan of Sabrina's work. The woman can write anything and I'll drool like one of Pavlov's dogs. And, of course, I'm hoping that she'll expand this world into a possible series with Crystal's three friends (starting with Porsche and a certain friend of Ford's). Please?
After reading The Real McCoy and I Am Not Your Cowboy (which I reviewed yesterday), I'll be picking up the Cowboy 12 Pack for sure. Sexy cowboys? Hello!

She shouldn’t have taken the shot.

For God’s sake, what had she been thinking? She’d been on a low-carb, low-calorie diet—with no alcohol—for a month. Not because Blaine had called her fat. That had nothing to do with it. She just wanted… She just wanted to do it for herself. Yeah.

It wasn’t like he was coming back or anything. And it wasn’t like she’d let him.

But it would be awesome to run into him somewhere, say the bank or the coffee shop or that bar on Grill Street, looking like a vixen. She only had ten pounds to go to hit vixen weight. It was a helluva ten pounds. They didn’t seem to want to budge.

And damn, she really wanted something to eat.

And damn, the tequila had hit her hard.

So hard she’d left the weekend kickoff party—although, to be honest, she’d wanted to leave since the pumping music and the grinding bodies and the strobing lights were starting to make her eyelid twitch. As down-home country as the bedrooms were at this ranch-slash-resort, they sure knew how to throw a bacchanal at night.

It was pleasanter out here behind the house, staring up at the stars and enjoying the kiss of a soft breeze. There were no sounds but the rustle of the leaves in the trees, the crickets and the occasional croak of a frog.

Her head hardly spun at all.

She leaned back and closed her eyes and imagined how amazing it would feel to be twenty-one again and interested in those kinds of men. To rub against a hard chest and feel his thickly muscled arms hold her close.

But none of those boys had ignited a flicker of interest in her. They’d all been rubbed smooth. Although several of them, and one in particular, had made it clear he wanted to dance for her.

It was a damn shame.

It would have been fun.

What kind of man would she want, if she wanted a man? Tall, for sure. Broad. Hard. Rough. Maybe a little wicked twinkle in his eye.

A door slammed to her right and her eyes flew open. She blinked as a man strode toward her through the shadows. Her heart lurched and the breath caught in her throat. Yes, her heart whispered. Yes. That was the kind of man she wanted.

He was big, and broad and roped with muscle. His stride was sure, determined and powerful. He wore boots that kicked up dust with every step, and chaps and even a Stetson. He had high cheekbones and a well-formed brow. His square chin was spattered with a dark shadow. His shirt was buttoned.

He looked like a real cowboy.

He looked like a man.

This guy could dance for her. No problem. She’d love to have him rub himself all over her—

His steps stalled as he caught sight of her.

“Well, hey there, cowboy,” she purred. It was probably the tequila purring, but he didn’t seem to care. He peered into the shadows.

She did him the favor of moving into the light. She liked that his nostrils flared and his throat worked. He touched the brim of his hat. “Ma’am.”

Ooh. Ma’am.

Sexy. This stripper knew how to play a role.

“You’re late,” she said.

He blinked. “Late?”

“The party’s already started.” She sidled up to him—again, the tequila; normally she would never sidle up to anybody—and put her hand on his chest. The muscles rippled in response and something inside her rippled as well. It was probably her womb. Crying out for a visitor.

It had been a while, after all.

She leaned closer, against him, and it was good. She nestled her nose in his beautiful neck and took a whiff. And daham, he smelled sinful. Wicked. Alluring.

“What is that fragrance?” she asked. She needed to know. Wanted to bathe in it.

He chuckled; the sound rumbled through her. “Soap.”

“Mmm. Yummy.” She scudded her palm over his chest, his thick arms and down to his trim waist. He held steady as she explored, staring at her through insanely thick lashes. It should be illegal for a man to have lashes like that. His features were locked and hard. A muscle ticked in his cheek. “You’re hard,” she murmured. Oh, God, he was.

“Yes, ma’am. I am.” This he said in a low purr, one that gave a sizzle of double entendre to the words.

Something cracked inside her. It was probably the remainder of her pickled restraint. He was the hottest man she’d ever seen, much less touched. His heat soaked into her and melted her, liquefied her.

She couldn’t stop her roving exploration and wouldn’t have anyway. Her hand drifted lower. His body tightened, his breath hitched as she reached his belt. And then she found him.

Her knees locked. Her pulse rocketed through her veins. Because Jesus God, he wasn’t just hard, he was rock hard.

“Nice.” A whisper, all she could manage. She gave him a little pump.

He hissed in a breath and said through his teeth, “Yeah. Nice.” His hand came to her waist. He stroked her bare skin beneath the hem of her tee. His calluses scraped her sanity.

“You are the most authentic of all of them,” she murmured, kissing his neck.

He grunted and pulled her closer, cupping her ass, measuring it with a squeeze. “Most authentic?”

“Of all the strippers.”

He stilled for a moment and she sensed he was about to pull away, which she could not allow. He was far too delicious to give up. So she nibbled his chin. She loved the bristles of his stubble. And he tasted…like a man. More man than she’d ever had.

She released her hold on him and pressed her hips against his, wrapped herself around him, hooking her leg around his. The feel of his body, hot and hard, plastered against hers from chest to groin, made her mouth water.

He allowed it, but then he did pull back. But it wasn’t far, and it was so he could stare down at her face, so she didn’t mind. His breath washed over her and she had the sudden compulsion to taste his mouth. Not a need or a whim. A compulsion.

“You think I’m the most authentic of all the strippers?” She had no idea why he was smiling, but she liked his smile. Especially the dent that appeared on his left cheek. Everything about him pushed each and every one of her buttons. They were rusty buttons, but he pushed them.

“You are. You really do it better than any of them. You sure look like a real cowboy. Baby, you could rope and tie me…”

“Sounds…interesting.”

She stroked his back, reveling in the bulge of his muscles as she made her way down to his ass, which she squeezed as well. “And you’re really well built.”

“Thank you?”

“For a stripper.”

“Right.”

“I wouldn’t mind if you gave me a lap dance at all.”

“You…wouldn’t?”

“Not at all.”

“I’m…flattered.”

“Would you like to?”

His brow arched. It was a striking, manly brow. “Like to?”

“Give me a lap dance?”

“You have no idea.”

She liked the tenor of his voice, despite the fact there was a laugh hidden in it. She raked her nails along the back of his neck and he shivered. So she walked her fingers into his hair, ignoring that she tipped his Stetson clean off.

God, his hair was soft. Dark curls. Silky and thick.

Their gazes locked. His smile faded. Tension hummed between them. Then she tugged his head down and took his lips.

When rakish Ned falls in with the wrong crowd, his brother decides to send him to the Continent for “seasoning”. For Sophia, this just won’t do. She’s loved Ned for ages—and also longed for adventure. She runs away from her boring suitors and disguises herself as a cabin boy on the Defiant, the ship sailing Ned to Italy.

Ned knows he’s not good enough for Sophia, but once they’re on the Defiant, he can’t stop himself from touching her, tasting her, loving her. Not when a wild tempest and a band of ruthless pirates threaten them. Not when every look from her gives him such pleasure. And certainly not when she comes, warm and wild and willing, to his bed.

If they survive their voyage, Sophia’s brother might kill him, but it will have been worth every moment and every hot, sweet kiss.

Sophia is tired of being told that she's almost on the shelf. Her brother keeps trying to marry her off to who she views as the highest bidder. That may make other society ladies happy, but not this one. She wants adventure and when rakish Ned is being sent off to Italy, Sophia decides that this is the perfect time. With a fairly convincing disguise, Sophia is able to get a job on the same ship Ned is on. It only takes one glance for Ned to realize that the short haired cabin boy is Sophia. He should be outraged, but he's not. Three days on a ship with Sophia is more than Ned can handle. It doesn't take long for their passion ignite, but the question is will they survive the trip...and each other?

I had so much fun reading Defiant. It is an adorable book filled with sizzling sexiness, conversations filled with witty banter, and swoon worthy glances. I loved Sophia. She's very impulsive, but her heart is in the right place. She puts her own life in danger to keep her loved ones safe. However, if they cross her, she has no qualms about putting them in their place. Especially if that loved one is Ned. Ah Ned... He was the perfect reformed rake. He's loved Sophia for years, but was always told that he's not good enough for her. I loved his sly glances towards Sophia. He can't trust himself to be near her, but he doesn't want to leave her knowing that she's to be married off. I loved his transformation into a gentleman that is worthy of Sophia's love. And with the help of their hysterically funny family, they just might get their happily ever after.

I adored Defiant and I think it may be one of my top Sabrina York books. I loved the two main characters and the fact that we see a lot of the characters from previous books in the Noble Passions series. They played a big role in the lives of Ned and Sophia. And some of the book's best moments came from scenes with the entire family. Defiant is the perfect book for when you want something sweet and sexy, but also lots of fun and very quick to read.

When Ryder “Stone” Maddox’s meets Lily Wilson—a senator’s daughter who is definitely off-limits—he’s determined to keep his distance, despite her irresistible allure. But Lily has plans of her own…to put his heart of stone to the test.

Just when I thought I knew what to expect from Sabrina York, she shows her readers a new side of her writing. We've seen her softer side with her Tryst Island series. We all know her kinky side from...well, from all of her books. Now we're introduced to her gritty side. Stone Hard SEAL is not a typical Sabrina story. We still get the hot and steamy sex, but we're also getting gritty romance that rivals the best military romance authors out there. Sabrina's flawless and descriptive writing made me feel as if I was watching the story unfold in front of me. I am really looking forward to what she has in store for us next and I hope she explores military romance more in the future.

I apologize for such a short review. As I said earlier, I'm planning to review the rest of the novellas from Hot Alpha SEALs at a later date.

Scarred by a long-ago crime of passion, Parker Rieth has dedicated himself to a cold, emotionless existence as a divorce lawyer. He is utterly unprepared for the effect Kaitlin Stringer has on his heart, mind and soul. Beautiful, ethereal and irresistible, she touches him in a way no other woman has. Though he has vowed to avoid her, he is drawn toward her.

Psychic healer Kaitlin is just what Parker needs to reconcile his past, to finally set old ghosts to rest, and to claim his destiny. Can he find the courage to step into Kaitlin’s embrace? Does she have what it takes to awaken his sleeping passion?

Sabrina York is my go-to author for erotic romance. So, it should come as no surprise that I loved her newest in the Tryst Island series. Parker's Passion is the story of Parker Rieth and Kaitlin Stringer. Both Parker and Kaitlin are wounded characters. Parker carries the scars of his brutal childhood. As a psychic healer, Kaitlin can see people for who they really are. Her talent failed to save her from being attacked in college and since that night, she hasn't been able to let men get too close to her. During the fateful weekend where two of her best friends, Emily and Tara, find their forever romance, Parker and Kaitlin find each other. Both are afraid of love. Both have had their hurtful past come back into their relationships. To say they need each other is an understatement. I loved watching Parker and Kaitlin slowly get past their hurdles to be able to open their hearts again. For a novella, it is actually a slow building romance. It takes a couple dates for Parker to gain the courage to make his move, much to Kaitlin's dismay. If he had waited any longer, she would have jumped him... Not that Parker would mind that. Nope, that would have made him quite happy. *grin*

I am absolutely loving this series. Parker's Passion is definitely the most romantic of the series so far. Parker and Kaitlin have kind souls that played a big role in this book. They are very gentle with each other and I loved that. I couldn't help falling in love with both of them. The background characters are just as fantastic. Well, which the exception of one character that I would give anything to kick him in the family jewels. I loved seeing how the previous couples are getting along as well as getting a little more information on how Emily and Tara met and fell for Ash and Devlin. Its always fun to watch other couples in the background. I can't wait until the next book. Hopefully it'll be Drew's turn because the poor guy got his heart broken.
