T.G.P. #4 - Blue By You

We interrupt the regularly scheduled Gibson Project post because I could not wait and jumped ahead. I have no willpower...

Blue By You

They say you never forget your first time, but there's nothing Blue Butler and Kasper Pennington would rather forget than their brief but fiery teenage love affair. Yeah, it was hot while it lasted, but then he went off to join the Marines, leaving Blue in New Orleans. She's tried to block him from her mind for good, but nothing can really erase the feeling she had when she was with him.

And now he's got the nerve to return—leaner, meaner, and strong enough to pull her into his arms and kiss her senseless. Blue's a successful businesswoman now, with no time to figure out what went wrong all those years ago. But Kasper knows she's the one woman for him … and now he's got to prove it to her all over again.

I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with novellas. When it is a new author, I love a novella because it gives me a taste of their writing. An amuse bouche, if you will. On the other hand, if it is an author that I love, a novella can be frustrating as hell. Especially if I'm enjoying the characters and the story, I turn into what I call a greedy reader and I want more. MORE! *grin*

When it comes down to Rachel Gibson, I get a bit nervous when I read her novellas. I read her novella, Crazy on You, and I barely remember what it was about. I didn't want that to happen again. And after reading Blue By You, I knew it was too short. I loved it, but I wanted more. The novella itself didn't feel rushed, but I felt Blue and Kasper had so much potential in their story. I would have loved to read more of Kasper pursuing Blue. How would their friends play a role in their relationship? What about their feuding family? I wanted more!

What did I love about Blue By You? I loved the characters. Kasper reminded me a lot of Rachel's past heroes. He's strong, handsome, and bad for your reputation. Blue is the anti-Southern Belle. She does things that are very un-becoming of a Belle. I loved their history. A second chance romance gets me every damn time. I loved the setting. The old plantation houses with vast lands. Gorgeous! Southern towns with feuding families? Yes please! My fingers are crossed that this is the beginning of a new series. I would love to see more of not only Kasper and Blue's family, but also more of the town of St. James Parrish. I can only imagine the crazy citizens of this southern town. And the trouble they can get into? Fun!

All in all, I loved the story and the characters, but I wish it was a full length book. Counting down the days until it'll be available in print so I can add it to my Rachel Gibson library. *grin*

  1. Your review is totally how I felt. Rachel Gibson has too much talent with character development to write novellas! She invests you in the characters and you just want more story from them because you love them and it is too hard to jam them into a short story!
