The black sheep of Fallbrook is back … and he's in for the surprise of his life.

Former bad boy, now-decorated Army Ranger Brody McBride is home and on a mission: Find the woman he never should have left behind and right the wrong he did eight years ago.

When the man she loved broke her heart and skipped town, Rain Evans picked up the pieces. But along with heartbreak, Brody left her something infinitely better than she could have imagined: two beautiful daughters. One she gave birth to, and the other she rescued from the woman who helped destroy her relationship with Brody.

Brody is shocked to discover he's a father, and he's more determined than ever to win back Rain and protect his girls. Can they rekindle the love they once shared and become the family they were always meant to be? Or will a danger from their past return and ruin everything?

Jennifer Ryan's The Return of Brody McBride lured me into her world of strong characters that'll do anything for the people they love. I was hooked from the first chapter. I admit that I haven't read Jennifer's Hunted series and since she is more known to Avon fans for her romantic suspense series, I really did not know how well Jennifer's style would fit into contemporary romance. Now that I've read a couple of her novellas and The Return of Brody McBride, I have to say that Jennifer freaking rocks the romance. Her writing style is smooth and the pacing of The Return of Brody McBride was perfect. I appreciated that there wasn't a lot of jumps in the timeline and I got a true sense of how Brody and Rain's relationship progressed and rekindled. Both Brody and Rain are remarkably strong characters. Brody has been through hell and back during his time as an Army Ranger. Suffering from PTSD, things can go from bad to worse in 10 seconds flat. Before he came home, Brody only had his medicine to help him cope with his flashbacks. I think it surprised him how quickly Rain is able to penetrate his flashbacks and bring him back from the horrible memories. Rain is just as strong of a character. It takes a very strong woman to not only raise a child by herself, but to also raise the little girl Brody fathered during one night he spent with another woman. I've never read a book with two characters that were more deserving of a happy ending than Brody and Rain. They needed the love and happiness and I was so glad that Jennifer did not make them jump through too many hoops to bring them together. I loved this book from cover to cover and I'm hoping Owen's book will be even better.

...bring on The Hunted men! *grins*
