A visit with Kenzie Macallan, author of Riveted

It is my pleasure to welcome debut author Kenzie Macallan here today. I'm always curious about how debut authors feel as their first book approaches release date. And since Riveted will be releasing later this month, this was the perfect opportunity to ask. So without further ado, here's Kenzie's reaction towards her debut novel...

I’m very nervous about the release of my debut book. I have never been here before so I have no expectation about how well it will be received by the readers. As an author, I’m look for my audience, people that connect with my characters, their struggles and my writing style.

You will always have critics and that’s necessary. I hope to find those readers who give my book a try to see if they like it. They may connect with the issues my characters have and who find triumph in the end. My characters struggle with some deep scars that aren’t always apparent to them right away. Realizing that, there may be some readers who will be too affected by the content. The character’s deal with issues such as domestic abuse, which are very real in the world but rarely given enough attention. My hope is that I can give it some attention without turning off readers. All this being said, the reader has to keep in mind it is fiction. It has a HEA because that’s what I like to write about. But the reality is not everyone in these situations have a happy endings.

I’m also excited about taking a chance and putting myself out there. It’s a risk. But it’s a risk worth taking. There will be those readers that do connect with the characters and like the story line. Then I will know that all my hard work paid off. It will make me work even harder in the future for the next books in the series, Edges and Blurred Lines.

It’s the first novel in the series so I know I’m just getting started with my journey. I would love to hear from those readers who loved the book and those that didn’t like the story. If it were constructive criticism then I would welcome it. I have some much more to learn, thankfully, and I can only do that if I listen to what other have to say.

She had affected him on every level, in every way, with her words, smile and body. He couldn't stay still, torn between keeping his distance and wanting to show her exactly how he wanted her. He didn't do dating. No strings attached, friends with benefits, always the safest bet. Obviously, Marabella wasn't that type of woman and his pull toward her scared the hell out of him. All bets were off.

I live in the Northeast with my two dogs who keep me very busy. As a child I traveled around the world to places like Africa, Greece, Italy, France, Holland and England. My favorite country is Scotland and hope to go back someday. I love to take photos of flowers and paint portraits, mostly of children. When I'm not writing, I'm reading all kinds of romance novels.
