Miss Responsibility meets Mr. Reckless

With her bridezilla friend on a DIY project rampage, bridesmaid Jane Denning will do anything to escape – even if it means babysitting the groom’s troublemaker brother before the wedding. It should be a piece of cake, except the “cake” is a sarcastic former soldier who is 100% wicked hotness and absolutely off-limits.

Cameron MacKinnon is ready to let loose after returning from his deployment. But first he’ll have to sweet talk the ultra-responsible Jane into taking a walk on the wild side. Turns out, riling her up is the best time he’s had in years. But what happens when the fun and games start to turn into something real?

When I started to read One and Only, I had just finished a book with a similar idea and I wasn't feeling it. So after a few chapters, I decided to put it on hold. Fast forward a week or so and as I'm scrolling through Instagram Stories, Leah from The Ripped Bodice mentioned that she's reading One and Only and is enjoying it. So I thought what the hell and I started reading it again... Five chapters later, I could not put the book down. Holy Shit Balls, this book was friggin' amazing. So amazing, I'm using italics! The characters were fabulous. I adored Jane. The balls that woman had! She faced her fears and never once backed down. Okay she did once, but in her defense... I would have run screaming too. Cameron was so damn lovable, it hurt to see him being judged for his past indiscretions. He's trying to move past it all, but just can't seem to get far enough ahead before it catches up to him. I loved that he and Jane truly understood each other. Cameron knew how to get Jane out of her shell. In return, Jane was the calming force that he so desperately needed. Simply amazing. I feel like I can't gush about the characters without mentioning Jane's friends, especially Gia. Oh, my god! I can't wait for her book.

When I started One and Only the second time, I wasn't prepared for how different this book really was. I loved that while the sexy time scenes were scorching hot, the budding romance between Jane and Cameron felt innocent at times. They went to a haunted house, spent time at a theme park... I kinda want to see that more in romance. And they didn't just jump into bed (although I don't think Cameron would have minded that one bit). I loved that about this book. The balance between the sweet "getting to know you" moments and the scorching sex scenes was fantastic. I was in love with One and Only from cover to cover. I have an inkling Jenny Holiday might be a new favorite author.

Jenny Holiday is a USA Today bestselling author who started writing at age nine when her awesome fourth-grade teacher gave her a notebook and told her to start writing some stories. That first batch featured mass murderers on the loose, alien invasions, and hauntings. (Looking back, she’s amazed no one sent her to a shrink.) She’s been writing ever since. After a detour to get a PhD in geography, she worked as a professional writer, producing everything from speeches to magazine articles. Later, her tastes having evolved from alien invasions to happily-ever-afters, she tried her hand at romance. She lives in London, Ontario, with her family.
