SHE ACCIDENTALLY CATFISHED THE PERFECT GUY.
BUT WILL HE EVER LOVE THE REAL HER?

Dr. Jack Reed has been through hell. His wife cheated on him, broke his heart, and lied for years. But moving on isn’t easy, and it’s impossible to trust women again. Until he meets Macie, a nurse at his new hospital. There’s something about her honest heart that makes him want to fight to get his life back.

Nurse Macie Franklin was always known as “the fat girl.” After decades of failed diets, she doesn’t dream of ever being anything but invisible to the opposite sex. One moment of weakness and two glasses of bubbly later, she’s in a steamy online chat with “Dr. J-Love” as the fake, size 8, bubbly Catrina.

Their passionate conversation convinces her it’s time to make big life changes. But when she goes to see Dr. Reed, the new amazing surgeon everyone’s talking about, it’s Dr. J-Love! And he’s way hotter in person.

They hit it off a second time as friends, but now Macie’s heart is at risk of falling hopelessly in love. Will he ever love the real her back?

I have the bad habit of reading the first or second book in a series and completely forgetting about it. Then books later, I realize my mistake and kick myself in the butt for getting behind. This time, it happened with Happy Pants Cafe, the prequel novella from Mimi Jean Pamfiloff's Happy Pants series. It was my first time reading one of Mimi's books and I loved it. What makes this story even more embarrassing is that I actually have a paperback copy of Tailored for Trouble, which was the first full length book in the series. I will be reading it shortly.

In Skinny Pants, the last book in Mimi's Happy Pants series, readers follow Jack and Macie's journey. Their budding relationship is fraught with self-doubt, painful histories, and a plate of matchmaking cookies. I loved that their journey felt real. It wasn't all sunshine and daisies. Macie struggles with her self-esteem, which is something a lot of us deal with. When a colleague turns what was a friendly nickname into something nasty, Macie starts believing the worst. When Jack starts paying attention to her, she automatically thinks he's "friend-zoning" her because surely he can't be interested. There were moments when I wanted to hug her and times when I wanted to go all Cher on her, telling her to snap out of it.

After his high school sweetheart ends their marriage, Jack is understandably hesitant to jump into a new relationship. When he meets Macie, Jack is immediately drawn to her. It took a great deal of courage (and a visit by an old friend) for Jack to finally be able to move past the hurt. However, when the truth comes out, the hurt comes flooding back. As much as I loved Jack, I felt there were times when he was too hard on Macie. I loved that there were times when he was self-conscious and kind of shy. When it comes down to it, he truly loved Macie exactly as she is and that's something I always love in a hero.

I loved Skinny Pants. Mimi's writing is hysterical. There were lots of moments that made me giggle. I loved how real Macie and Jack felt. Both characters had flaws that they accepted and embraced. I loved their connection and chemistry. Overall, Skinny Pants was exactly what I needed and I loved every page of it.
